Ashley Hubbard
Bio: Ashley is 24 years old and has always loved art of all kinds. Since she was 11 years old, she has struggled with a disorder called Trichotillomania (Trich for short). Trich is a disorder that gives you the compulsive urge to pull your hair out. You can learn more about trich here: http://www.trich.org/
This past year, Ashley found that making origami dragonflies helps with distracting herself from the urges to pull. When she told Toko about this, they teamed together and started a project of making origami dragonflies to spread awareness about Trich and to send prayers for the Earthquake/Tsunami children survivors in Japan. They made over 1000 dragonflies with the help of many others all around the world.
Dragonflies have become a huge symbol for Ashley of how much she has grown with her struggle with Trichotillomania. She has come to a place in her life that she feels beautiful just the way she is. The dragonflies represent that she's going to still have times where the urges get overwhelming, but that she can "fly" forward and resist them. Dragonflies also remind her of all the love and support she has had with her friends and family since opening up about having Trich. The dragonflies give her hope that she will one day have the urges to pull under control. She decided to make a mobile of dragonflies to share that love and hope with someone else. No matter what that person is going through, she hopes they will find some kind of peace/tranquility every time they see the mobile.

Toko shot a short documentary about Ashley: Finding a way she has found peace through a struggle, and hoping to help others with their own struggles... Link to the documentary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMxgCkLt-M0

Dave Knoerl
Bio: I’ve been a creative person all my life, growing up in artistic surroundings. My mother went back to Wayne State for her fine art degree which exposed us kids to different mediums. This creativity was put on hold for a time while I worked to support my family. I started taking classes a few years back and worked with some wonderful people who sparked the creative energy within.
I have a studio downtown now, Red Feather Studio Detroit, where most of my work has been produced for the last year. I’m an artist who is willing to try different mediums and mixing those mediums and see where it goes Photography has always been a medium I find challenging and is a way to express what I see and how I interpret the world around me. From my concert work, a walk in nature, or the urban landscape of Detroit, all have possibilities with the camera in hand. That spark of inspiration, the idea or concept, that takes form and goes wherever it chooses and then somehow I have a piece of art that I hope someone might enjoy. Peace

Don Werthmann
Bio: Don Werthmann is a teacher and digital photographic artist. He has taught studio and location lighting, color theory, digital printmaking, and portfolio development at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for over thirteen years.
He holds M.A. and B.F.A. degrees in digital and traditional photographic imaging, respectively, from Wayne State University in Detroit. As a Visiting Scholar at The Japan Center for Michigan Universities, in Hikone, Japan, Don offers college students an immersion experience to study photography abroad.
Immediately after obtaining his undergraduate degree, he worked as a freelance photographic assistant in several automotive studios around the Detroit area. Over those five-plus years he found opportunities to work with over 40 commercial photographers, which was inclusive of other markets around the United States — New York, Los Angeles, Houston, and Phoenix. His contact with Japanese camera crews on automotive catalog jobs produced in Detroit, sparked his interest in Asian cultures, which has perpetuated into the years being spent in academia.
His eight years at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, proved that teaching is his calling, and as Operations Manager of the prestigious organization, he discovered the organizational skills garnered in the commercial world were invaluable instruments in photographic education.

Felicia Genevieve Bawolek
Bio: I am a puddle jumper & a drill sergeant; an idealist & a cynic. I have learned to embrace my unique perspective and use photography, design, video, and various mixed media in an attempt to thoughtfully share ideas and observations. My work is only part of a conversation, and is not an absolute statement or judgement. My goal is to solicit a response, in the hopes of promoting constructive discussions and/or point out things that are overlooked in our daily lives …so as to discover a new appreciation for them. I work in digital and analog mediums. My favorite tools are my Holga and Mamiya C330 TLR cameras. The last two years I have been participating in the documentary filming of the barrier reef damage along the Great Florida Reef. It is the only living coral barrier reef in the continental United States and is the third largest coral barrier reef system in the world. I have also been executing private commission pieces; continuing work on existing photographic, video and multimedia projects; and supporting/promoting local artists by photographing area events.

Gloria Wilson
Bio: When I asked her about her bio, she just humbly said, "You don't have to add" with beautiful calm smile. But I need to say... one of the most amazing photographers who can capture photographic magical moments. (I think she can actually speak with animals and nature without words) Amazing artist and human being.

Kate Barker
Bio: Kate Barker received a BFA from Eastern Michigan University in 2001 and an MFA from the University of Oregon in 2004. She has been teaching photography at Washtenaw Community College since 2005.
Kate says about photography “I am attracted to the medium of photography because of the immediacy of the process. I enjoy composing the image in my head, finding it out in the world and capturing it on film. Quite often I end up with something other than I intended. These little surprises and accidents are one of the things that keep me fascinated with photography.“
“When photographing, I largely work with the Holga, this simple toy camera allows a certain loss of control when capturing an image. The soft, hazy images that are produced by the plastic lens enhance the mystery and ambiguity of the subject matter. To me this way of working lends itself to conveying the ephemeral and fleeting nature of of the decontextualized moment, thus giving importance to this brief instance that could easily have slipped by unnoticed, were it not fixed in time in a photograph.”
•••Kate donated this sweet moment of Holga photographic print (It's my personal feeling but when I see this image, I feel like, I was there...... I felt the wind and heard the sounds of birds......) for this fundraiser***

Richard Campanelli
Bio: When it came time to choose a major in college I was unsure whether to go with music or art, as I was very involved with both of those disciplines. I can't remember how I chose, but I think I flipped a coin and music won. I went on to get my doctorate from the U of MI in music with a D.M.A.
I never gave up making art tho, and have privately sold paintings and have had seven of my paintings used as Ann Arbor Observer covers. I also am currently playing violin in a local band named Inkflo
